There is much to be said about appreciation and gratitude. It seems when we can set some time aside each day to give thanks and appreciate what we do have, and most importantly, those whom we have in our lives - our lives become more centered and grounded in the things that matter most. Where does art fit in?

While art is not one of our basic needs for survival, it gives us - both the makers, the appreciators and the work - an opportunity to connect. And isn't that what this time of isolation has brought to the forefront...our human need to be in connection with each other?

Through whatever particular art form we artists choose to deliver something new to the world, we offer an opportunity to create a sense of wonder or mystery, a dialogue, a conversation, a question, an argument (more in the positive sense of discussion rather than negative sense) with others. We can tell our stories through our work and that may touch, reveal and even inspire. We can create beauty, conscious that much of it lies in the eye of the beholder. Sometimes, we makers may create artwork that is beyond our comprehension and yet, trusting in our process, we send it out into the world with our understanding that the meaning will be derived from each individual's particular perspective, experience, knowledge and receptivity to this creation. That creation that may have come from us, but is not us. 

Art is a form of connection, in and of itself, and it also is a platform to make connection with others.
